City of Shade
Former Capitol of the Rythellan Empire, now one vast network of industry, trade, prospectors and investors and
a well established underground trade and criminal base of operations.
The large room was strangely luxurious, for this level of Rythellan, and seemed to be designed purely as an informal waiting area - several couches and chairs were carefully arranged in small groupings.
A small water sculpture twisted and flowed through an endlessly repeating set of patterns in the centre of the room, placed there purely to make a point - whoever owns this place has money to burn.
One entire wall was a window, or at least a projection of the external world, another rare artifact for this part of the city, just above the informal boundary between the spheres of influence of the mid-level police and the lower level gangs.
The view was dominated by hovers blurring past, little automated bubbles shuttling their human cargo - streaks of colour against an otherwise dull backdrop. The sky was not visible at all, this far down...
Several other people were in the room as well, and their purpose seemed to be the same as yours. They seemed competent enough, for the most part. The details of the job was still not clear, but the amount of money offered as payment was way too much too ignore. You had no idea who your employer is at this stage, but from the surroundings it was likely to be a corporation - the interior of the room was pure corporation style.
There was no entertainment, but no one was speaking either - trust is not easily gained. You have been in here for almost 30 minutes now, and you wondered what the delay was.
Everyone is gathered in the room already, and you are waiting. Next post will be the job description. You can use the first post to get used to your characters, to get comfortable with their personalities and what you think they would do - this will also allow us to see how the other players take part.
Chapter One
Cat
I sit with my head bowed neither looking left nor right. It appears as if I am staring off into space, but there is a deep frown upon my brow.
Kuan
Just could not let such a high paying job slip through her fingers, so she agreed to meet the employer.
The next day she arrived at the address given by the clean cut shaved middle age man dressed in typical business attire.
She was not the first one to take a seat in the waiting area. She simply sat quietly waiting for the employer to make his appearance. Looking about the room to see what the trade or services offered by the company. She also took glances at the others in the waiting to obtain any ideas of the possible client type the company had business with.
Hisato
The soft brown lengths of her long coat sat on the floor, circled around her folded legs. She sat against the wall on the west side of the room, leaning her back against the soft, cream coloured wall. She wouldn't take a seat at the table. Not yet. Hisato surveyed each of the people sitting at the table individually. She smiled under the shadows of her rimmed brown hat as her eyes darted from person to person.
The message had come courtesy of one of her more influential contacts. The message was short and free of details, but the reward was clear - not that she needed the money. Her personal credit card was loaded with credits, not to mention the hundreds of uncontrolled cards she had collected from the sale of information. People were touchy about not wanting to be linked to her. Arrogant fools.
The smile broadened.
Kuan
Seeing the one man sitting in the room with a serious frown, she thinks to herself, "Poor sod. Probably in debt or in trouble with his employer."
Seeing the fur coat lady, she smiles, "This one surely has credits. Could it be she who is in service of a pilot to transport something of value or is in need to be transported to an unusual destination. Though it has already been 30 minutes without announcement."
Akiko
Strolling around the room, my eyes come to rest on the sculpture,
I watch the patterns form and coalesce, while I subvocal for local
news and weather and notice the people in the room waiting with
me, settling into a chair I watch the view for a while and listen to
a track by ObsCura - a new band I recently discovered.
Zan
So im arriving late at this place im supposed to be at, no mention of what the job was but i was going anyway. I made a loud entrance to distract from the fact that i was late. Once in the building i took a look around at my competition, cause lets face it why else would so many rouges be in a place like this at one time.
Edge
A few people came, 1 or 2 left. They were weak. I knew that these people were here for the same reason I was - they all had something unique about them which defined their trade. Assembling a team perhaps? I don't work so well in teams - never have and never will. I don't think anybody in the room even knows I've been here here with them this whole time. You learn ways to blend in and keep outta trouble when you're in the same work as I am...especially if you wish to avoid the dogs from your past.
I'm most interested to see what this credit-machine has to offer us. It seems a little fishy, so I've naturally got my trigger finger ready ... just in case. Waiting around makes me uneasy, and any contact might end in tears.
Cynn
“Damn suits, always keeping us waiting” I mumble loudly so everyone in the room can hear me. “Like I don’t have other business I could be attending to, I’m a busy man and people want me round these parts” I say a little softer more to myself than anything else, summing up the others, waiting in the corporate room.
Water fountain, nice, these guys trying to show off what they want to throw around, I turn a coin in my hand. It’s a lucky charm. 1900th century, Earth. Man I would have loved to see that place in my life time, but it’s gone, gone like so many other unsuccessful planets. Couldn’t keep up could they? I’d heard the woman were nice there, pretty and well, easy. Man on man, would have been good times. I study the coin. I’d picked it up on a job I’d done years back, well not so much pick it up as sort of put it in my pocket to view later and never returned it. I’m sure it was worth a whole bunch of credits.
I strut up and down, making sure ever one knows my presence and sizes me up. Yeah baby, look I’m all man; I smile at the woman on the floor. I’ll get me a piece of that. I grin more thinking of that I had done before coming to the call back. Those hookers down in the lower parts of the city were cheap and nasty, but a man’s got needs. Not that I needed to pay for that kind of thing, but that was half the thrill wasn’t it.
I rub my head, clean as a whistle; I didn’t have a hair on my body. Radiation, does that to a man, I’d been in some rough jobs in this life time and as a result had a few side effects. Plugging in had its set back’s. “Man alive, how much longer” I say out loud again, making sure everyone looks up.
Cat
This has to be big..................Thinks to himself ( I wonder which system or lord we are going to have to take on.)
The waiting is not going down well with the group you sense as the rest in the room are people of action.
My frown changes from one of seriousness to one of amazement. What could the job be that warrents the collection of people in this room? Having accessed all of their life histories it becomes plain the job must be a big one. I wonders who the heck has the credits to amass this group who have never really worked in a group before. All are know for being individuals and the best at what they do.
This has to be big... Thinks to himself (I wonder which system or lord we are going to have to take on.)
The waiting is not going down well with the group you sense as the rest in the room are people of action.
Kennrial
He leans back, feeling the soft memory-foam of the expensive couch shape itself underneath him.
Expensive. Wonder who is getting the bill for all of this.
He rubbed his hands through his short hair, turning his head to study the other people in the room.
No point in hiding it, as I sure they will be doing the same. I guess we will be expected to work together. No other alternative really.
He automatically supressed his desire to try and guess the aptitudes and skills of the other people in the room- Appearances meant nothing in this world, and only actions revealed the character of the person behind it.
30 minutes, at least. Fashionably late, proving a point, or are we waiting for more people to join us?
The flowing water scuplture irritated him. Stupid expensive things, served no purpose other than to impress the gullible. He sighed, and forced himself to relax again.
This better be worth my time...
Akiko
Akiko shifts restlessly, subvocals the volume down and has
a closer look at some of the people.
The big man with the black eyes, doesn't like the decadent
fountain, interesting.. looks like he's worried or tense about
something, maybe he's got debts or expensive habits or maybe
he just doesn't like being couped up here with us..he looks
slightly familiar..
..oh merciless gene, look at the strutter, wonder what he's
gloating about, a razone merc too, by the looks of it.
Kuan
Becoming some what frustrated of being bored waiting for the prospective employer to arrive, Kuan stands to take a walk to the entrance door. Opening to step through, before closing it behind her. She quickly searchers for the receptionist, to ask directions to the rest rooms. "That mug of yellow bean juice was not such a great idea. Would not have taken one if I knew I work have to wait so long for my appointment.", as she makes her way to the rest room.
Everyone had assembled in the room again, and was growing irritated at waiting - although not everyone was showing it
The lights in the room suddenly dimmed, and the giant window projection shut down, stealing even more light.
'Thank you all for coming.' The voice had no discernable source, and was probably a generated one, smooth, with no trace of an accent.
'You might be curious as to why you are all gathered here. At this point in time I can tell you that you will be expected to work together. The money you will earn will more than make up for any inconvenience, and the job should not, barring accident, take more than a week.'
The voice paused for a long moment.
'You are all very good at what you do. This is an opportunity to test your skills, and as mentioned the payment is substantial. More details shall be given within the next hour, as some final reports are expected, and that content needs to be taken into consideration. You are expected to familiarise yourself with each other, as you are employed as a team from this point on. You have all agreed to this.'
Another long pause.
'That will be all, for now. Expect to be deployed soon.'
Hisato
Hisato stood, the long flowing coat now fell around her slim, toned legs. She lifted her hat off her head, and it all but disappeared in her hands. She walked over to the table, but did not sit.
"If you are all going to sit with mouths full of teeth, then why don't I begin? I am Nehiruun." She paused to let the name sink in. Seeing no recognition, she carried on. "I am the boss of the Rhyellian Habusa," she said, dropping the name of one of the bigger street gangs. She didn't wait for anyone to react. "I'm skilled in many things, but I think it best if I keep that to myself for the moment."
She pulled off her coat and flung it over the vacant seat alongside her before she sank into a chair, and swung her legs under the table, crossing them as she did. Almost immediately, her complexion changed just slightly. Her eyes were a hazel colour, and her cheekbones high set in her face. Her long ject black hair fell well past her shoulders. She fell to silence again, and watched the others. The was no point in trying to be unnoticed in this group - she would need them if she were to complete this task and reap the reward.
And here they think I'll share it with them. Hah! Such ignorance. Such unfounded confidence!
Edge
I wasn't sure what this Nehiruun character was parading for. Shunting out information to strangers with such arrogance is often an irrational ploy with no reward; and disclosing that she was aligned with the Habusa was most certainly a fine example. Most of the people in the room may have lifted an eyebrow - I lifted two.
It's been many years since I last saw Hisato. 'Skilled in many things' was no surprise to me considering her heritage and potential, and (as before) she was not scared to shout out about it.
Yes, Hisato and I have a history. I doubt whether she would recognise me though. She was so young...
Kuan
Kuan took a seat at the table upon returning to the room, pulling the chair backward slightly so she could comfortably place her feet onto the table in front of her. She was not really concerned what the rest thought of her placing her feet on such a fancy hand crafted table. She was just making herself comfortable, for she realized this was going to be a long employment interview, even though this was the largest group she had to work with so far.
When the employer stopped speaking, she muttered out aloud, "Really know how to drag out the process of hiring skills for a job."
Hearing the classy lady speak, introducing herself as being a boss of this planet. She looked at her again before speaking, "No need to get your boobs into a twist. Yes, we all here for the money. I was chosen to be hired for one thing that I am good at. To pilot a vehicle to somewhere and possibly back again, though I don't mind one way trips, for there is always a job to another destination. I am Kuan, also known as The Transporter in many circles."
She becomes silent for a brief moment, before giving out a short laugh, then speaking with a hint of humour, "I guess the rest of you will be my cargo."
Zan
Zan sat down in an open chair near the door and carefully observed the surroundings. This all seems too good a job offer, too good to be true in fact, he thought to himself.
Right since Hisato has just introduced herself so shall I. Without any more thought he spoke in a firm tone. "My name is Zan and thats about all you will know for now, unless you have any questions of course."
Akiko
Getting up from her chair, Akiko
Nehiruun seems tough and assertive, quite different from Kuan's brash but honest approach. I hope we
get along. I suspect this job is going to be demanding and there's going to be confrontations, just look
at some of these guys, maxed-up and ready and experienced enough to take on a small army.
"Hello everyone, I'm Akiko, engineering specialist, my software penetration skills will open many doors for us,
ensuring electronic cloaking and a clear route to any M-frames we might have to access."
"a Pleasure to meet you and I hope we work well together."
.. they seem receptive enough, a bit aloof, definately not dancers, eheh
Cynn
I chuckle, while listening to the unseen voice. Typical, I flip the coin once more the put it back into my left side pocket. "Always got to drag it out, don't they, damn suites". My backs towards everyone and I stare out the large projected window taking in all the others behind me.
As Akiko finishes her introduction I spin around and take in this lot at the table.
"HA, right lot you are. I'm Cynn. I'm sure you've heard of me, so no explanation necessary". I say with confidence and arrogance. Full of myself was an understatement, I retrieve my lucky coin from my pocket and walk straight towards Nehiruun and put my black jet dirty boot with metal caps right up in front of her on the table, making a loud clashing sound as boot meets the table.
Looking straight into her eyes, "your a pretty little thing, can't say I've had any dealings with the Habusa before. But then again I do jobs all over and never been called by them. Hard to believe a rose like you be running a gang like that, but hey, I've seen it all in my life time."
I flick my coin in the air and catch it still looking straight into Nehiruuns eyes, lift my boot and walk away and continue to pace up and down the open area, waiting to get the rest of this job description done with. I wasn't the type who enjoyed waiting around to much.
Kuan
Kuan simply smiles after Cynn speaks to Hisato, thinking to herself, "Well that is putting her in her place."
She watches the others presenting themselves trying to piece together the group's skills and talents.
Kuan speaks out after a little while, "This got to be the longest interview I ever had to endure in the waiting game."
Getting bored at the waiting she decides to change the colours of her clothing towards the darker spectrum to indicate her bored gloomy state.
Hisato/Nehiruun
Ah Cynn, how easily you bend to my wills. You won't be any challenge at all.
Hisato smiled, and glanced around the table. The pilot has a small smile on her face after Cynn's little show. Good - she won't be any challenge either. Poor little Nehiruun - so weak and defenceless. How could she ever be the head of such a notorious gang? Hisato could barely hold back the smile.
Kennrial
Kennrial followed the introductions of the other members of the group, wondering how such a diverse selection of people had been brough together.
Work together indeed. Trust is earned, not given, I really wonder about some of these... Dammit, I wish I could remember the name of the leader of the Habusa. Why would a gangleader even be approached? As for the strutter... I wonder if he can back up those big words. That short guy, he has military written all over him. Wonder how he got here. The others... Definitely not fighters. I am not sure about the balance in this group, not yet. What in all the hells could this job be?
'I am Kennrial,' he lifted himself from the couch, easily the biggest person in the room. 'Think of me as providing protection. I can handle myself fairly well in a fight, if needed.'
He glanced at the others, knowing that they could not see the direction of his gaze through the implanted protective films, and sat down again.
'So now we wait, until our employer decides to enlighten us.'
The room had just fallen silent when the voice spoke again.
'The final details for your current employment has now been confirmed. Exactly 27.45 standard hours from now a small low-orbital transporter will depart from the Staatentek Corporations's secondary launch facility in Basdena. You will enter this facility, and take control of the transporter. You will not be detected by Staatentek - stealth is of the greatest importance.
The transport is due to dock with the Staatentek Orbital #03F. You will enter the orbital, and secure a very specific cargo - the location is at this point unknown, but it is on board #03F. You will then obtain one of the two subspace capable craft on board the orbital, and arrange for an accident that will destroy any trace of your presence. Delivery co-ordinates will be sent to you once you have obtained the cargo, and your payment will be dealt with upon successful delivery.'
The voice paused briefly, as if conferring with someone else.
'That will be all. We will be in contact once you have obtained the cargo on board the Staatentek Orbital.'
Kuan
Kuan slaps her hands together tightly with force as excitement of flying into orbit fills her. "About time! Time to party hard!", she shouts to no one in particular. "No wonder I have so many helpers this time round. They be stealing the cargo that I be delivering.", as she stands up in preparation to enjoy some orbital fly time. "That transporter should be like taking candy from a kid.", speaking out with confidence.
Hisato/Nehiruun
Hisato slid her had silently into her pocket and produced her communicator. She keyed in a few numbers and held the device to her ear. She whispered something softly into the device, barely audible to her companions. She made sure to say a few words loud enough for the group to hear.
Credits...Information...Staatentek...
With that, she rang off, and turned back to the group. "We should have all the information necessary in just a few hours. In the meantime, I think we should assign ourselves roles in this circus." She was smooth and unfaltering. If she was to assert herself to be the information source to this group, it would have to start with something big.
She'd just contacted the navigator of one of the tranding companies that used Staatentek Orbital #03F. He knew the station well, and would be able to get the blueprints of the Orbital. It's amazing what a few credits can get you, she thought to herself.
Edge
Everyone in the room looked a little delighted to run after the prize without a single question. A room full of outlaws, criminals and weirdo's, and they all happily do what they're told? It was time to step forward. I expose myself to the group.
"By business agreement, you are my co-workers" I said to the group.
I spoke louder:
"But by social pre-disposition, you are fools!".
"I mean no outward offense - but have you folk not contemplated the nature of this dealing? What exactly is it that we are committing to? I am not seeking debate...simply making sure you are all aware of the dangers you may face. I'm sure most of you can handle yourselves...or atleast SOME of you...but what is of such great (apparent) importance that this large team of 'elites' would need to be hired to undertake? We have lots of time. I pray you all : please rest a moment"
Kuan
Kuan smiles as she strolls of to over Jinn and placing her left hand onto his shoulder gently, speaking softly to him, "You are so correct. We need some sort of a plan before rushing somewhere. So what is your name?", dragging her finger tips along his shoulder.
Pausing enough for him to mention his name, she continues, "As long as the cargo is not weapons, illegal drugs, slaves, living creatures or their body parts I will transport the cargo from one location to another for a fee. If I discover the cargo to be on my illegal cargo list, I just leave it behind and go look for another job. Besides I do specify this on my resume for work, which I have no doubt that actually checked already."
Edge
I was pleased that the Kuab had common sense above finesse. I chose to be cranky all the same:
"Listen lady. From what I've seen today - reckless power like this shouldn't need a small army to steal any of the above. You've done small jobs before, right? Don't you get the sense that this is bigger than this?"
I turn for the door : not to leave, but to investigate some new personal space
Akiko
"... arrange for an accident that will destroy any trace of your presence.."
Blow up the Orbital ?, that's very callous, a cleansing grenade should
do the job with minimal damage to the Orbital, I can prevent any binary
leakage of the event, I'll need the Orbital schematics.
Akiko looks up when Edge walks past, noticing his rigid back and his irritation with
the idea of having to work with unsavoury characters, then looking towards Kuan sees the
dragging finger and almost does a double-take..
three hundred dancing demons, will you look at that..
Clearing her throat softly and looking towards Kuan, Akiko speaks up in a clear pleasant voice.
"So Kuan, you agree then, that we do minimum damage to the Orbital, as I see you care about
living creatures ? and this 'accident' can be avoided, if we plan this very well and
execute it with maximum efficiency,.."
Looking from Kuan to Nehiruun, Akiko continues talking:
" ..and after securing the transport, we still have to
reach the destination and deliver the cargo 'safely', and make sure we
can deal with any tails, if something goes wrong."
Cat
"ponder's to him self, this sounds like there is one major catch to this job"...............................Will we all make it out alive or do they have plans for us afterwards..................A whole orbital??
Must be something really important!!!!
Zan
"Right so I'm thinking we need to get hold of another ship shortly after we leave. We can make this looked like a failed robbery to begin with. We can trash the first ship and make it look like there were no survivors."
He paused for a moment considering his sudden urge to speak...
"Anyone else got an idea?"
Zan thought hard at what was about to transpire. He looked around nervously while trying to size up this group. We are an odd bunch he thought to himself.
Tassye
Glances around the Room of hired help.. looks like things are going to get messy before the end of this job... knowing from pst experiances things always go wrong no matter how well you plan... Might need to setup some sort of collateral Dammage plan here..
Speaking up " listen here people i don't know any of you , andto be honest All i care about right now is getting this job done. We need to plan this as well as we possible can and start pooling our collective resources and see what we can come up with.. By the sounds of things some of us might actually survive this job. So were going to need Schematics of the orbital station. the in's and out's , Security bypass codes , shift schedules of the people working there the whole damn lot, I think we might want to plan blowing something else up along the way to get people to look the other way."
and with that I use my com link to make a few calls...
Cat
Cat speaks up, looking at the others in the room.
'Do think this maybe a test to see how we will all react or a means to get us to work together as a group. Either way we need some one who will lead us, or take charge.'
Kuan
Kuan returns to the table, to take a seat and place her feet back onto the table. She takes out a small palm size starship fighter module she obtain while at the military starship pilot academy, toying with it in her hands.
She speaks out without taking her eyes off her little model, "Could one you you info maniacs would tell me what type of transporter I going to take control of. Also the other space crafts we suppose to use to escape the crime scene. It does help being prepared in advance."
Cynn
And there I stood in the middle of the room just listening to this bunch. Normally it was like me to jump right in and take charge, but something was urging me not too. Just listen. Eyes scanning the others, trying to figure them out. And why had such an unusual bunch of hired hands been asked to do a job together. Either way, I was just in it for the credits. And I was ready to roll regardless of the dangers; it wasn’t in my nature to worry about the formalities. I guess I wasn’t much of a thinker anyway, more into my action.
I walk into the fray of things “look, I’m the hired muscle here, well part of anyway. Just let me know what you lot decide and I’m in, I don’t ask questions.” I look back at Nehiruun and give her a smirk and sit down on one of the couches and wait yet again to see what will transpire.
Hisato/Nehiruun
Several minutes passed before the communicator in Hisato's pocket screeched. She hastily pulled it out and flipped it open. She looked at the screen and then set it on the table, pressing a button. Immediately, a hologram appeared of the #03F substation, it's identifying number painted big and bright on it's side. Hisato motioned to the hologram. "There she is boy and girls - Orbital #03F."
The hologram moved slowly in a circle, and Hisato motioned with her hand. It changed into a wire frame model, still rotating. Within the model two areas pulsed with a yellow colour - the subspace craft. Hisato turned to Kuan and smiled. "Reckon you could manage these little things?" she said, a little too aggressively, motioning to the pulsing Lockheed Harpoon 55's. She again motioned with her hand, and another part of the blueprint started pulsing, this time in red. The oxygen room. The perfect place for a little accident - highly flammable, and easy to stage something that would look like an engineer's mistake. Hisato spoke again. "A little match in there and we can watch the fireworks as we pull out of the Orbital. Now all we have to do is find out where and what the cargo is we're carrying."
Hisato motioned toward the communicator again, and the hologram disappeared. She slid the device back into her pocket and turned back to the table, a smug look on her face.
Tassye
Looking at the device I try to see if there any flaws in the plan.
Seeing nothing at the moment I speak up. 'Getting in and out should not be to much of a problem... I am sure one of you lot knows how to hack these systems, if not I am sure we can figure something else out.
Cat
'The getting in is going to be easy but the getting out that's gonna be not so easy... But I am sure we can come up with something colourful.'
Kennrial
Kennrial stood up again, shaking his head.
Typical. What the hell was our employer thinking, this many individuals with no clearly appointed leader. I hate doing this, but someone needs to.
'Right, listen up. This is going nowhere at the moment. We need a plan, and a good one, before we even think of hitting that Orbital. Getting into the Staatentek launch facility, even a minor one, is not going to be easy. In fact, that might be the hardest part of this job. Staatentek is not known for playing nice at all, and as far as I know they employ one of the largest armed forces on this planet, probably close to matching the Emperor's Guard. If we go in unprepared, this will get messy.'
He glanced around at the others. At least I have their attention.
'We need to get to equipped for this. One of us - Nehiruun, you seem to have some contacts - should get the info about the launch facility. Won't be easy, but if we can at least get some info 'bout the layout, security, launch times we should be good.'
'We also need to get into their computer system, or wha'ever the hell you call it. Get some info on that launch, figure out how to get onboard. We cannot engage their forces in the facility, so we need stealth, camo, wha'ever works. Someone needs to get on top of that. Volunteers?'
He turned to Kuan. 'I think it best if you sit back for a while, until we get our asses into that Staatentek compound.' He lifted his right hand, scratching at the light scarring around his eyes.
'I figure we stick together, drop down onto the firezone - we will get noticed, but with some luck both the police and the gangs will be too busy to really pay attention to us. Gonna take a coupla hours to get there. Anybody know of a point where we can hole up for a bit to recon, before we head in?'
Kuan
Kuan gives out a burst of laughter as Kennrial finishes. She pauses briefly before speaking, "As long as the rest of you take care of the security access issues, I will pilot any transportation you give to me.".
She then speaks to Nehiruun, pointing her fighter model at her, "Yes! They seem to be simple orbit to planet launches, nothing fancy. So I guess our delivery destination will be on this planet."
Returning to looking into the ceiling once more, she speaks, "Oh! Could you be so kind to send me those orbital schematics so I can study them. I sure there be a way not to destroy the whole spacecraft and innocent lives."
Edge
The time had come for me to open my mouth. I wasn't keen, but I knew my way around."I think I can help.
A couple of you jumped a bit when you first noticed me standing here in the corner - and some of you have maybe concluded that my armor is unique. I can move around passively. As for snooping out the compound - I can help there too. I've been somewhat of a nomad for the past few years, and I know the land. There just so happens to be a pipeline network leading from one of the auxiliary buildings to the compound that I use to get in and out of the city - the building specifically being the old weapons room. There shouldn't be anything of much use, but it makes for a forward base. There are irregular patrols around these points, which have never been of concern for me in the past. I'm not sure how you lot will get through quietly though."
I wondered whether this information (as useful as it might be to the mission) was absolutely necessary for this group. By this, I'd be inviting them to a very muddy place of my past..
Akiko
Akiko turns towards Edge nodding; "I'll recon the pipelines with you, see if there's any other tunnels we could use, and we
should look for any access terminals to the Staatentek m-frame."
"The other thing, about blowing the oxygen room, I suggest a more subtle approach; we open the intake valve and jam it,
the control room alarms will sound off, as soon as point 8% oxygen leakage is detected, thereby creating a diversion to the
Oxygen Control Room. I can't do this alone, I'll need help getting to the intake valve, it's located on the outside of
the tank."
"When we lock down/leak their oxygen supply, most of the staff will be stranded in safezones, making it easier for us to do our
job covertly, most of us have armour or suits that accommodate this."
"Blowing the tank should only be an option if I fail to rig the oxygen valve, which I won't, I happen to know the engineer who
designed those modules."
Kuan
Kuan smiles hearing of an alternative to destroying the orbital, "I do own my very own fighter pilot spacesuit. The only thing that would be needed is to take control of the monitoring systems of the orbital so we can move about freely."
She stands packing away her toy, "Think we should head off now to our new base of operations. Give me time to collect my gear, including my pilot suit. Oh, we should we meet? There is a drinkers hangout 2 buildings to the south of here."
Cat
Monitor systems should be no problem for me to handle, so just tell me how many "ghosts" you want running around messing with the security system.

Head resting on the back of the couch and boots up on the table, I’d been listening to everyone’s input. This Kennrial guy was starting to make sense, hell I might even grow to like this guy. And if he’s the one willing to take charge, I’m willing to follow, for now. I might have been full of myself and a chancier, but I wasn’t a born leader.
“Look guys” I speak up so everyone in the room looks my way. “We only got 27 or so hours to get to The Staatentek Corporation, and we better stay getting ourselves together here, since it’s on the other side of this planet.” I sit straight up and eye everyone out. “Look I know some people, who owe me a favour or two, they’ll be able to give us two unmarked hover crafts to get us there. The only problem is navigating there, well, without getting caught”, I clear my throat wondering if they going to buy this. Jersey and Makbe were some guys I’d had dealings with in the past and they dealt in stolen hover crafts, it would be risky, but worth a try.
“I’d say we get our act together and meet in two hours at this bar Kuan is talking about. That should give everyone time to get what they need to for this mission and I’ll have the transport vehicles waiting there? If all is agreed. We’re going to have to navigate our way around the low parts of the city as to stay out of sight of the police or anyone else that might get in the way. Going to be risky, but it’s the best I can suggest.” I pause, considering a few things. I’m back to pacing again, eager to hear a response. Only got to worry about the gangs then, I think and then shudder to myself.
Tassye
Listening to the crowd getting all excited about this job i shake my head.. Pull my coat closer and push the door open. " see you all at the bar i got things to do , ppl to see "
With that I head out the door to go speak to some of my Ex comrades to see what I can dig up on the Orbital station and prhaps pick up some interesting things that go boom in the night
Kuan
Kuan stands to head out, speaking as she walks, "I will see you lot at the drinking place."
She quickly heads off to her rented apartment she has been using on the planet for the last 2 weeks. Once there she picks up her backpack, which was always ready packed just in case she obtained an immediate job to do. She quickly checks through her backpack to make sure everything is in order before placing it onto her back and heads off to the landlord to pay the rent.
Once she arrives at the meeting place, she takes a seat at a table against one of the walls to await for the others to arrive.
Zan
Zan stood up at once and decided he had everything he needed to take along. "See you lot at the bar!" He headed for the door and paused for a second. Hmm we better move fast if we going to make this in time, he thought to himself. He walked slowly along the sky bridge crossing to the next building all the while muttering strange things below his breath.
He reached the Bar to the south and ordered a whiskey. "Gimme a shot o your finest barman!" He sat near a window out of sight for the time being waiting for the others to arrive.
Tassye
After making a few calls and making sure my gear is in place i had off to the bar. Upon entering th bar i see one of the recruits sitting by the bar..
Cat
I wait till last to leave the building, would not be good to be seen with all the others just yet.
I make my way to the bar as fast as I can. I need to be there first.
I get to the bar, do a survey of the area and find myself a good hiding place, so that I can watch the street and doors of the bar. (Something is making the hair on the back of my head tingle, hate that feeling .)
Just got to wait for the last few to enter the bar.
Akiko
Arriving at the bar, Akiko orders a Lathebeer, gently shaking the beer from side to side until the foam forms a cone,
licking the foamy cone, she joins Zan in the corner, by the window and lifting her free arm, whirrs one of the
tiny tools on her arm at him in greeting and sits down next to him.
"Heeya Zan, I'll just sit here with you and watch the door, I've got everything I need right here,
(Akiko whirrs the tool again)and takes a deep drink from her beer.
Hisato/Nehiruun
Hisato watched the others leave, one by one - all going for a few drinks. Soon there was just her and one other in the room, and she used this as her cue to leave. She stood, threw on the long brown coat, and exited the room silently. As she turned the corder to enter one of the building's high speed personal transport chutes, her hair suddenly lengthened and turned a jet black colour, and her eyes shifted to a hazy grey-blue. One would swear she was slightly taller and more muscular too.
The personal transport chute began it's familiar whine before jetting her quickly down. It took several seconds to reach street-level, and another few seconds to reach the building's door. Many were too scared or cautious to venture out onto the streets, but for Hisato, this was HER teritory - this is where she was respected and feared. She walked casually down the sidewalk, her hard soled shoes playing out a gentle staccato rythym on the concrete. It was a short walk to the building where she lived, and soon she was lying on her soft bed, staring at the ceiling, waiting for the favours she had called in to come through.
Snapping awake, aware of her shirt being soaked in sweat, she sat upright suddenly. She glanced at the clock. She'd been asleep for a little over 2 hours. From outside the window, the song of traffic and arguments drifted up the cityscape and fell into the window, carried on the breeze. It reached the ears of the occupant of the bed in this room. She sighed and pulled the sheets over her head, the warmth encapsulated her from the outside world. She lay in the artificial darkness, listening to the sound of her own breathing for a few minutes. Soon, she was awake, and could not drop back to sleep, no matter how desperately her body wanted her to. She would be very late for the bar meeting now.
It only took her half an hour to reach the bar, and by the time she got there, everyone had assembled and were eagerly awaiting direction. She sat at the table and smiled. While she had been asleep, her credits had been working for the group. Hisato smiled and spoke. "A few blocks from here, there is an abandoned floor of a building. I now have the only key, and I've been assured a nice collection of toys has been stashed there for our persual." Hisato smiled again, and whistled for the bar wench to bring her an ale. She would at least drink like a man, if this group was to think she was capable.
Kuan
Arriving rather quickly to the bar Kuan, long before the agreed meeting time of the group she took the time to order something to eat. As she waited for her food she leaned back against the wall near the window, ignoring the activity outside, she watched the remaining of the group arriving, though she kept missing two individuals, namely Zan and Nehiruun.
Once her food arrived she too her time to eat for she had plenty of time on her hands, while she thought about the job she accepted, though concerns of innocent lives could be lost during sabotaging of the orbital to hide the groups evidence was of some worry to her. Hopefully Akiko and others will come up with a way to prevent their presence and leave minimal damage to the orbital.
After the agreed time arrived, she spoke to the rest, "Have any of you any idea where Nehiruun is?", while thinking to herself, The damn rich care little of being on time for meetings.
As Nehiruun took a seat at Kuan mutter under her breath, "About time!"
When Nehiruun finished mentioning the hideout, Kuan stands up speaking sternly, "What are we waiting for? Show us the way!"
Akiko
Akiko laughs at Kuan's excited outcry and motions for her to sit back down, "take it easy, let's first finish our drinks and besides,
this is a good time to get know each other better."
Sitting back in her chair, Akiko twirls the half full glass and shaking it, forces the foamy cone back up and taking another lick of
the icy foam, she gestures towards Kuan, "I bet you've been to a lot of places, being a pilot, I remember a small cruiser,
called The Frederick Pohl, crashlanded on that icy little moon in the Rythhaven system, wasn't it you that found them?, it was
reported that some young hotshot pilot found them while doing a telemetry run near one of the zones and ..I've
been wondering where I've seen you before, but that was more than 3 years ago, it was you right? .. well anyway at the time
there was also rumours of strange events taking place, spatial displacement zones, that pilots were warned to avoid, and I heard
that it was possibly the attempt by some unknown entities to try an establish a stable wormhole..since then I've heard nada,
and was wondering if you ever flew by such a zone and can tell me anything about it ?"
Edge
I walk back to the table end with my drink, and take a seat opposite Nehiruun. I give a glance, hoping for an echo that the girl would recognise me. Now wasn't the perfect time for a reunion, so I take back to drinking. She was too young, and she would never understand.
The end of the bar had a very groggy feel about it. I'm not sure if it was the most secure place we could have found - but any eavesdropping is plausible chitter chatter, as we were not a very convincing crowd for the most part. My eyes are peeled.
Kennrial
Kennrial lifted his right hand, again scratching at the scarring around his eyes.
Damn this. I do not want this responsibility. Why should I do this? Not as if I'll be paid more for it. But if no one else takes the lead we will be running around in circles the whole damned day, and I need this job.
He left with the group, not caring about the order, wondering if anyone of his new team would be trying to analyse, reading more into the situation, trying to turn it to personal advantage.
More than one, for sure. Poor bastards. Sooner or later everyone learns that you do not cross a corp, unless you have the backing of another one.
Two hours was plenty time to reach the meeting point, and he did not need much in the way of gear. His shield was always on him and his fists needed nothing but his own strength.
Once outside the room the harsh dry air was like coming home. Water was scarce, and extraction units made sure that every last bit of moisture was claimed and recycled. He smiled without any humour as he compared the lushness of the corporate interior with the cold reality just outside. Crowds of people, pushing, walking, talking - Rythellan was alive. Lines overhead carried those who were taking longer trips than walking would justify, conveyor belts for humans, endless kilometres melding together, connecting the entire planet. You could circle Rythellan, if you had the inclination, without taking a step.
Kenriall decided to walk, having no difficulty in moving through the crowds, his size and appearance making people get out of his way. He barely noticed this, trying to think of some way in which a small group of people - that had never worked together - would go up against a big corporation, sponsored by... By who? He wished he knew, but the size of the payment guaranteed an absence of questions.
He found the bar, cheap, tacky holographic signs extending into the open space above the heads of passers-by. He pushed his way through the doors, into the smoke-filled, crowded main room.
At least hiding in here will not be a problem, right out in the open. No one will pay us any attention.
NPC MODE
I will post the next NPC bit tomorrow morning - I am just too tired at the moment. If you would all be as kind as to wait for me to get that done before posting again I would appreciate it - that will get the next bit of direction going in the story.
